Reporting to the manager, the Registered Practical Nurse provides holistic, quality and safe care to patients within the scope of practice identified by the College of Nurses of Ontario, evidence-based nursing practices, RNAO Best Practice Guidelines, and the policies and procedures set by Shouldice Hospital. Requirements

  • Graduate of an RPN Diploma program from a recognized institution.
  • Current Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
  • Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification.
  • 1-2 years nursing experience in acute care settings.
  • Knowledge of Pre-op and post-op assessment, patient teaching, and documentation skills.
  • Experience with phlebotomy, IV insertion and IV medication management.
  • Sound knowledge of CNO Practice Standards and the Three Factor Frame Work.
  • Excellent interpersonal and listening skills with an ability to work effectively with others.
  • Demonstrated strong decision making, problem solving and critical thinking skills.
  • Proven prioritization skills with an ability to manage workload effectively.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to effectively resolve conflict in a productive and respectful manner.
  • Demonstrated commitment to continuous learning and professional development.
  • Knowledge of Regulated Health Professions Act, Occupational Health and Safety Act, WHMIS, and the Standards of Practice of the College of Nurses of Ontario.

Clinical Manager-In-Patient Care – Job Description

The Clinical Manager of the In-Patient Care unit will be responsible for the human and financial resources of the Pre-operative, and Post-Operative patient services. This role will report to the Director of Nursing and will oversee care for patients pre and post hernia surgery and all staff participating in the provision of care. The Clinical Manager, In-Patient Care, will work collaboratively with physicians and other clinical and nonclinical leaders to ensure standardized care, and safe practices are consistent with the Shouldice Hospital’s goals and objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the overall organization and leadership of the Preoperative surgical program including patient care delivery, operational planning, HR development, financial management, quality management and education and research.
  • Participates as a member of the team, facilitating, planning, goal setting, evaluation and assisting in the management of the fiscal, human and material resources assigned to the program, as well as establishing standards and development and delivery of program to patients.
  • Liaising and collaborating with internal and external professionals and stakeholders to ensure practice standards are aligned and integrated across the hospital and nursing.
  • Establishing and representing the global overview of the program through sound and influential decision-making and achievement of the strategic and operational plans.
  • Performing other duties consistent to the job classification and as required by the hospital.
  • The Clinical Manager, In-Patient Care, is accountable to the Director of Nursing for budget, operational responsibilities and professional practice.
  • Provides leadership in the definition of strategic direction and ensures excellence in patient care and service delivery through continuous quality improvement processes that include planning, quality monitoring and risk avoidance to the patients and the organization.
  • Provides leadership to a team of healthcare professionals in collaboration with the Director of Nursing.
  • Ensures that all aspects of patient care and services are consistent with the Hospital’s goals and objectives and align with the needs of the patients being served.
  • Responsible for enhancing the interprofessional collaboration throughout the continuum of patient care.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in nursing, Health Care related, or Business field is preferred.
  • Bachelor’s Degree is required.
  • One to two years of leadership experience in hospital setting is preferred.
  • Experience in quality, resource and utilization management and planning, and effective communication.
  • Professional membership.
  • Demonstrated significant experience in a leadership role.
  • Superior financial and statistical management abilities; including the ability to assess, interpret and project budgetary needs.
  • Program planning and evaluation skills.
